Scotia Schaff

Associate

Scotia Schaff is an associate in Ring Bender’s Portland office. Scotia works closely with the firm’s partners to advise corporate, municipal, and individual clients on complex environmental, energy, and natural resources matters, representing clients on a broad spectrum of issues under federal and state law.

Scotia and the other members of Ring Bender’s team draw on a wide range of skills and experience to serve clients effectively as a team. This collaborative approach allows the group to provide prompt, high-quality, and creative solutions to even the most complex legal issues.

While at Vermont Law School, Scotia studied environmental, natural resources, and energy law and served on the executive board of the Women’s Law Society. She continually found ways to connect her science background with law, authoring an independent research paper on patent law and using her research skills to earn the Academic Excellence Award in Appellate Advocacy. Scotia spent her summers as a policy research intern at the National Farm Medicine Center and as a summer associate at a small business law firm, where she supported a wide range of legal matters, including business, real estate, employment, and intellectual property.

After graduating from law school and relocating to Portland, Scotia worked at a boutique water law firm, where she specialized in water rights, natural resources law, municipal law, and administrative regulatory compliance.

Scotia is highly engaged in the Portland legal community, where she is an active member of the Gus J. Solomon Inn of Court, Oregon Women Lawyers, and the Young Lawyers Division of the Multnomah Bar Association.

Outside of the office, you can find Scotia riding horses, camping on the Oregon coast with her husband and dog, or planning her next international trip. She loves the outdoors and will try anything that gets her on the water, including surfing, scuba diving, and sailing. Scotia is also an avid basketball and hockey fan and can often be found at Trail Blazers, Fire, or Winterhawks games.
